Well, actually, there have been many days in the shop recently. most of them have been dedicated toward Aerial Rig Mark 2, which i expect to have ready for burning man this year.

Note to self: making your own .25 x .5 x 2 inch structural steel tee section, starting with 2-inch square bar stock, takes damned near forever. I needed 18 inches of the stuff, but it isn't one of the 25 commonly available steel sections. It took roughly 15 hours in total to make the required 3 6-inch sections with holes drilled in the correct places. Next time i'll just alter the design.

That said, the central spider-hub of the new rig is coming together. After tonight, it really looks like progress is being made.

The steel tee-sections are what is joining the arms to the central hub. Much thanks goes to [livejournal.com profile] sensesurfer for access to the Big F'ing CNC Machine i used to cut out the arm sections.

The rig point is on a bearing, so we don't need to use a swivel in our rigging.

not a bad days output.
