frobzwiththingz: duo fabric shot (duo_silks)
[personal profile] frobzwiththingz
OK, assembled readers, we've got a question for you all. [livejournal.com profile] klingonlandlady and I are in need of a name to use for our duo silks performances. Some recent photos of same appear in the following lj entries: here and here

We used "The Fabulous Flying Frobozzniks" once, but while that was OK for the first duo routine we did a ways back, it is totally not suitable for what we are doing now. Since I'm not very good at coming up with such things, i'm going to ask the time honored LJ Friends Oracle for suggestions.

What should we call ourselves?

The Dangling Darlins? :)

Muscles in Motion?

Danger Duo?

Flight and Tights?

Tangled Weavers?

Orbital Aeronauts?

Fake names also could be good, or the form "so-and-so and so-and-so" or ""so-and-so and so-and-so, the Adjective Noun!" as you can see we have a long way to go here ;)

I like "So-and-so and Whoziwhatsis, the Adjective Nouns"! Then again, one of my current favorite T-shirts says, "I'm so adjective, I verb nouns." :)

All I can think of now is "The Dangling Participles."

Hee hee! We'll have to find some event where we could actually use that. As long as we don't end up following the the "Run On Sentences".

"The Prepositions" would be an extremely frequently misspelled burlesque troupe.

i am terribly tempted to suggest "the spiders from mars", but i don't really mean it. if you're going to be among the steampunks very much, how do you like "alchemical aers"?

Does the current name work if you drop the "Flying"?

Hm. You could substitute "Flirtatious" for "Fabulous" in a pinch :)

None of these are awesome, but:

Counterbalance

I'm not coming up with a great combination, but here are some interesting words that might be of use:

span, which means duration, distance between two points, two items of the same kind, a structure allowing people to cross an obstacle, and the property created by the space between two objects or points--Silken Span? Tangled Span? Aerspan?

shimmer
lustre
burnished

What do you desire to communicate with the name?

aereal/flying, sexiness/grace/fluid motion, possible slight raciness or playfulness. Something that could be seen on a programme for a corporate event or a festival, and give the impression of a higher-quality aereals act. That's my take anyway. For the vaudeville and lowbrow variety shows we can stick with the Fabulous Flying Frobozzniks :)

What has changed about what you do such that the name that was okay then is now "totally not suitable"?

The current acts we're shopping out are sexy, burlesque, a little more polished. The Fabulous Flying Frobozzniks was great when we were being Vaudeville, slapdash, and Retro Circus Kitch.

I believe in copying successful name patterns.

So are there people who do what you want to do,
and if so, is there some common flavor in what they call themselves?

(hairdressers often use joke/pun names, lawyers almost always use human names, metal bands use things that sound dark and broody)

Location names can be useful. "Westford Air" (or "Air Westford"), "Silk 128", "Boston Skyline".

Starting names with the letter A can be useful in some circumstances; you get top billing anytime things are listed alphabetically.

I also like to make up words. And doing that helps find available domains.
It's good if you can find sounds that evoke a sense of what you want to convey. Acura and Compaq are both composed names. This, however, makes conveying the spelling more difficult, and for people who probably want word of mouth, this would be a lose.

I will not suggest "Aerial Rumpus". I would suggest "Madcap Aerials", except that what you do tends to be more sensual than bouncy. And the word Aerial gives me some hesitation; I'll bet a lot of people can't spell it.

Hmm. Conveying senses of flying and fascination, how about Moths to a Flame?

edit: for racier shows, Aeros? Aerotica?

I like 'Aerotica' - thought you'll have a hard time booking that at non-racy venues :) Keeping with the racyness though, Carnal Connections...

Then there's back to buzzwordy...

Synergy in Motion

How about fantastical / artful...

What about something like "Silky Smooth"? Or "Aerial Attraction"?

As an aside, this site (http://www.circusland.com/favorites/eng/glossary.html) has a fun glossary of circus terms that I was using for inspiration.

Silk and Space (Sounds more like a show title tho)

Abstract Geometry (Same as above)

Dimensions

Dimensional Alchemy (I do like the alchemy thing)

Silk Equation

Hover Craft (This probably demands too much thought to get the wordplay)

Slide Rule (Same as previous)

Fire and Air

Airflow

Imaginaerie.

Or maybe Imaginaerial.

Or, you could go with what you audience will be doing and name yourselves Drool. But that might be too droll...

I suggest using the name "Phiz". It describes you too together. Also Fizzing can be a nifty idea...Sizzle and Phiz? Phiz Dazzle? Silken Phiz? This would require more thought than I have right here and now.

Dude, I have no suggestions right this second except for the Hotty Hot McHottentots.

Damn, those pictures! I wish I'd been able to make the Flea and see your act there.

That said, I like Aerialchemy best thus far. Since you seem to be spinning silk into gold.
